Hub Prep
If you want to study abroad, you need to consider the points below. This preparation will help you get the most out of Elite Schools Hub.
Essential Considerations
Do you have the funds?
You will need at least US $35,000 per year for the cheapest elite school study abroad options. The cost can be much higher depending on your choice of university and location.
Without access to the required funds, studying abroad is unlikely to be possible. Some students think scholarships that cover all or most costs are widely available. They are not. The best most students can expect is a scholarship that will cover part of their tuition fee. Student visas may allow part-time jobs in some countries.
Do you have the grades?
Make sure you have the academic achievement required for the programme or by the college/university you want to attend. Make sure you have studied or are studying the high school courses you'll need for the programme you want.
English Language Proficiency
You'll need to speak English – or whatever the school language is – fluently enough to qualify for admission. There are recognised assessments by organisations such as IELTS, TOEFL and Duolingo that score you on your level of fluency. Make sure you meet the minimum requirement of the school you want to attend.
Key Questions to Consider
Answering the questions you can download below will help you create detailed queries for Max, the hub’s AI assistant, and that will help Max generate more helpful, relevant responses. You can download the questionnaire and complete it in your own time. You can see what the questions are beneath the Download My Goals button.
It's also best to determine your budget. To help you with that, download this spreadsheet and complete it in your own time: Just click here:
What is your career objective?
What general subjects are you interested in? (Examples: Business, Computer Science, Science, Liberal Arts, Social Sciences, Art & Design)
Have you met anyone who does a job you'd like to do? What programmes could lead to that job?
Consult a career counsellor or guidance teacher for help deciding.
List your programme options. If in early high school, study required courses.
What colleges/universities and countries/cities are you considering?
Determine your budget including tuition, supplies, travel, accommodation, insurance, etc.
Research scholarships (most cover only part of tuition - full scholarships are rare).
Are you considering post-graduate degrees? Loan options may be available.
Check admission requirements and your current grades.
What's your English proficiency level (IELTS, TOEFL, Duolingo)?
When do you want to start?
Ask Max the Right Questions
"I'd like to do an undergraduate degree in computer science. What are four good options?"
This provides no detail, no country, no budget, and no grades. Most likely Max will just list four highly ranked universities.
"I'm an Indian student. I would like to do an undergraduate degree in Computer Science specialising in Artificial Intelligence. I'd like to study in England but not at Oxford or Cambridge or a top London university. My budget for tuition is £25,000. What are four good options."
This question gives Max enough details to generate a helpful, relevant answer.
